He Humbled Himself: By James Lantz
Our Savior, which is Christ the Lord, humbled Himself to do His Father’s will because it was right. Jesus, being born of a virgin, entered the earth legally by being born into it as a little baby. He trusted His Father’s ability to protect Him in this sin cursed earth. It was the greatness of His Father’s love that moved Jesus to leave His Father’s glory, take on flesh and become as one of us! John 1:14 GNT The Word became a human being and, full of grace and truth, lived among us. We saw his glory, the glory which he received as the Father’s only Son. The Almighty, our heavenly Father, chose Jesus the creator, to give His life for His creation before the world was created. 1 Peter 1:20 Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you, Jesus was selected because He was the only one qualified to be the spotless lamb of God and fully trusted to fulfill all the Father’s will. John 5:30 I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me. Jesus became our substitute in His suffering, death, and torment in the flames of hell but He also is our example of how to humble ourselves in obedience to the Father’s will. God never asks us to do anything
Embracing Our Role In The Body Of Christ Shows True Humility!
for Him that He would not do for us because that would be unjust. God requires that we die to self (humble ourself) and take on His life in order to enter the kingdom of God. Jesus humbled Himself by leaving His Father’s glory and took on flesh and became a man for all of eternity. 1 Tim. 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; Jesus is all God and all man! Some would say that we are just trying to bring God down on our level, no, He came down to our level of His own free will so that He could raise us up to sit with Him. Upon entering the kingdom of God we are commissioned to be ambassadors and represent God’s kingdom. 2 Cor. 5:18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; Jesus found Himself in the word of God, and understanding God’s plan at an early age, He embraced the fact that He was to be the sacrificial lamb. Luke 2:49 And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father’s business? At twelve years of age Jesus was surprised that His parents didn’t understand what He was called to do yet He returned to Nazareth and was subject unto them. We also, being clothed with humility, are to submit to those who are over us, knowing that God resist the proud but gives grace to the humble. Submitting ourselves to do the will of our heavenly Father allows us to be partakers of His grace!
Jesus humbled himself, took on the form of a servant and was made in the likeness of men for a good reason. Jesus mission was to bring redemption to fallen man, giving him opportunity to reunite with the Father, by undoing the works of the devil. 1 John 3:8 . . . For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. The work of the devil is stealing, killing, and destroying. Jesus revealed how wicked satan really is by revealing that he doesn’t even come around except to steal, kill, and to destroy. John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. Surely this is why the Lord instructed us to not give him any place. Eph. 4:27 Neither give place to the devil. Adam should have run him right out of the garden, but no, he just allowed him to talk his lies which decieved his wife and he just followed her lead like an ox to the slaughter. Disobedience, which is sin, received the law of sin and death into the earth which came upon all men. The curse consist of spiritual death (includes physical death as well as eternal separation from God) , sickness, pain, and poverty. God’s reason for sending Jesus was to redeem all those who desired to be a part of God’s family. Jesus destroyed (undid) the works that the devil wrought through sin and death by taking our punishment and giving us a new life in Christ. Isaiah prophesied that Christ would bear our sicknesses, sins, and poverty so that we could be healed, forgiven, and empowered. Isaiah 53:4 YLT Surely our sicknesses he hath borne, And our pains–he hath carried them, And we–we have esteemed him plagued, Smitten of God, and afflicted. Isaiah 53:5 YLT And he is pierced for our transgressions, Bruised for our iniquities,The chastisement of our peace [is] on him, And by his bruise there is healing to us. Our heavenly Father’s love for us was so great that He did not spare His only Son. Through Jesus Christ the power that sin and death had over us is destroyed. Rom. 8:2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. Everyone who receives the Lord Jesus, believing on His name, is granted the power to become a child of God.
Jesus undid the works of the devil by His coming in the flesh, His suffering, death, and resurrection.
The peril of fallen man being separated from the Father throughout all of eternity has been reversed. The evil that satan desired for God’s man will be his punishment in the lake of fire! The gospel is good news, all who call on the name of the Lord shall be saved, and throughout eternity we will be separate from those who rebel. Rev. 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. Jesus redeemed us from the curse and gave us the blessing because He loves us!
Jesus humbled himself, being obedient to die on the cross, looking forward to God’s great reward. Jesus considered it a great joy to receive all who would place their trust in Him! Heb. 12:2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. The scriptures reveal that God sees His people as His own inheritance and that we belong to Christ. Heb. 2:13 And again, I will put my trust in him. And again, Behold I and the children which God hath given me. Jesus left heaven, humbled Himself to be mistreated among His brethren, took upon Himself the curse by hanging on the cross, satisfied the Father’s requirement for justice, rose from the dead and shares His victorious life with you and me. We, the church, are the reward that Jesus came to the earth and gave His life for! He considers us as valuable and precious and worth the awesome price that He paid to redeem us from destruction. God’s people are referred to as the Lamb’s wife as well as the body of Christ. Rev. 21:9 . . . Come hither, I will shew thee the bride, the Lamb’s wife.
Jesus Humbled Himself To Receive A Glorious, Spotless, Bride!
Rom. 7:4 Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God. 1 Cor. 12:27 Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular. We are referred to as God’s house, God’s vineyard, trees of righteousness and living stones, and more but all of these refer to the fact that we belong to Him who saved us. Heb. 3:6 But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end. John 15:5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. The way to promotion in the kingdom of God is through the fear of the Lord and through humility! Luke 14:11 For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted. There is great reward to everyone who subjects themselves to the Father of spirits and gives Jesus the preeminence in everything!
Isaiah 7:14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
