Different Kinds Of Prayer  Part 1 : By James Lantz

There are different kinds of prayers which must be prayed according to the rules for that kind of prayer. All prayer is not prayed using the same set of rules just like all sports are not played according to the same set of rules. You do not apply the rules of football when playing the game of baseball just as you do not apply the rules to the prayer of consecration that you apply to the prayer of faith. There are some rules that are constant in every kind of prayer such as believing and having your heart right.

The prayer of faith is the prayer that a believer prays in order to receive something from God or to change a circumstance. This is the prayer that we initially prayed to God in order to be taken out of the kingdom of darkness and to be brought into the kingdom of God’s dear Son. Our understanding of the scriptures could have been very little to none but somehow we had been enlightened to the fact that we needed Jesus to save us from our sins. We believed in our heart that Jesus was Lord and confessed with our mouth that we believed Jesus was our Savior! The prayer of faith or the prayer that changes things is very simply stated in Mark eleven as well as many other places.  Mark 11:24  Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.  John 15:7  If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.  1 John 3:22   And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.  God allows us to pray the prayer that changes things for

Faith Works By Obedience!

others under certain conditions. Often this means that they are young in the Lord and ignorant or unable to pray for themselves. This includes praying for our children when they are small and even those in the church who humble themselves and call for the elders of the church to anoint them with oil and pray the pray of faith for them.  James 5:15  And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.  Often we can pray the prayer that changes things for sinners to be healed if their heart is open to God healing them. The prayer of faith which calls those things which be not as though they were will not work if we insert, if it be thy will, into the prayer. We must know the will of God before we pray by knowing what He already said in His word or by hearing from Him personally. We must believe that we receive the very thing that we ask for when we pray and we shall have it.

The prayer of agreement allows the faith of another to undergird and assist and help us to receive what we were not in position to receive on our own faith. God does many more healings and miracles through the collective faith of His people than He does individually just like you can carry more weight using two hands (body parts) than you can with one hand.  Mt. 18:19  Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.  Jesus is communicating that the Father in heaven has delegated authority to His man and that if we want things changed in the earth it must start with us. This prayer requires two believers on earth coming into agreement and touching by faith anything that they ask for and our Father in heaven will do it. Remember that you must ask the Father for that thing you desire and then agree in faith that you believe you receive it. We can not believe without hearing from God because faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of Christ. Do not be overly quick to agree with just any request but make sure you have God’s word first so that you can be sure to receive from God. Believers laying hands on the sick for their healing is a form of the prayer of agreement. The one in need of healing must be in agreement that God’s healing power will flow into them and that they will be healed when hands are laid on them. When ministering to others through the laying on of hands be looking for signals that they are ready to receive because it is not just about us having the power but it is also about them receiving the power. Unanswered prayers will hurt your faith and God is not obligated to do something He didn’t say He would do.

The prayer of consecration is what Jesus prayed in the garden prior to His suffering with our sicknesses and dying for our sins.  Luke 22:42 WNT  Father, if it be Thy will, take this cup away from me; yet not my will but Thine be done!”   Jesus was in agony over the coming suffering and He prayed that He might not have to go through with it, yet He wanted the Father’s will over His own. Jesus was committed to bringing redemption to you and me and bringing many sons to the Father and thus the Father sent an angel to strengthen Him.  Mt. 26:42  He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done.    Since Jesus gave His life for us it is only reasonable that we put our flesh under and present our bodies as a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God. We are not to conform to the worlds way of thinking but to be transformed by the renewing of our mind, that we may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. Peter had caved in to the fear of death and denied Jesus three times. Peter wept in repentance and humbled himself among his peers as evidenced by continuing with the other disciples. Jesus had Peter recommit his love to Him three times for the three times he betrayed Him. This prayer of consecration is not limited to once in a lifetime but may be prayed whenever we are aware that our actions or thoughts have become unholy or displeasing to the Father. If we are luke warm to the things of God, or if we are in love with the things of this world we are in great danger to being spewed out of Jesus mouth. Examine yourself to see if you are in faith because thats the only way we are going to please the Father. Repentance and reconsecration are precious gifts from God! Jesus desires to come into every part of the believers life and make every day exciting and full of peace and joy but we must invite Him in!    Rev. 3:20  Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.  Committing to do the will of the Father allows God to strengthen us and have sweet fellowship with us. Believing God is a choice! Obeying God’s commandments is a choice! Choosing right companionship is a choice!  1 Cor. 15:33  Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.  1 Cor. 15:33 WNT  “ Do not deceive yourselves: “Evil companionships corrupt good morals.”   Building God’s church is a choice!   Haggai 1:8  Go up to the mountain, and bring wood, and build the house; and I will take pleasure in it, and I will be glorified, saith the Lord.  It is a faith choice to seek God’s kingdom and His righteousness before our own. Living by faith is a choice! Walking in the Spirit is a choice! Praying God’s will into the earth is a choice! Being a vessel of honor that God can use is a choice!  2 Tim. 2:21  If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work.  If you sense that God has more for you it’s because He does, He has much more. Don’t be angry at your younger brother who chose to repent and receive forgiveness and restoration from the Father, just repent, commit, and go get yours!

The prayer of supplication is when we make a request or petition God for ourselves or for another believer. The Spirit of God through Paul identifies supplications as a specific type of prayer.  1 Tim. 2:1  I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men   Phil. 4:6  Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.  The Spirit of God has Doctor Luke make a distinction between prayer and supplication as well.  Acts 1:14  These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.  Zacharias made his petition to the Lord concerning his desire to have a son. The king James uses the word prayer but it is from the same greek word that is translated supplication in other places.  Luke 1:13  But the angel said unto him, Fear not, Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John.  We don’t know how many months or years may have passed from when Zacharias first petitioned God for a son and the moment that Gabriel appeared announcing that Elisabeth would bear Zacharias a son but we know he didn’t believe him. When you come from the throne of God with good news of God’s favor you expect that God’s priests would believe you! For more on this subject see our teaching on “ Don’t provoke your angel ”. God is interested in your requests and petitions so keep expecting them to be answered even if much time passes. As soldiers in the army of God we are to be on

the offensive, taking up the sword of the Spirit by speaking and praying the word of God over every situation.  Ephesians 6:17  And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:  Eph. 6:18  Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints  Remember that God’s words are spirit and they are life. Self-centered people have not yet joined the army of the Lord because faith works by love and love prays for the brethren. If you are facing an impossible situation, don’t despair, nothing is impossible with God. Paul regularly thanked God for the saints at Ephesus and petitioned the Father of glory to give them the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him in the following three areas.   1.  To know and understand that God has commissioned them as His children to take the glorious gospel to the whole world.   2.  and what the riches of the glory of the Father’s inheritance in the saints,   3.  And that they would know that the exceeding greatness of Christs’ power is given to those who believe.  Another anointed prayer that you can pray again and again for yourself and others is mentioned in the third chapter of Ephesians.

Eph. 3:14-21 .  .  .  That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God. Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end.  Amen.

Take up the sword of the Spirit and fight for your leaders, loved ones, and all saints with all manner of prayers and supplications in the Spirit. Be specific and name the name of those you are making supplication for, whether it is for yourself or others, and continue to pray until enlightenment and strengthening is established in them.
