Romans 8:2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.
Two Spiritual Laws! : By James L Lantz
Spiritual laws, like natural laws, work all the time, every time, for everyone and every situation. The law of gravity works the same for the young and the old, the small and the great, the rich and the poor, as does the law of sin and death. No one is alive on the earth today from Abraham’s day, nor when Jesus walked the earth during His earthly ministry. In fact, no one is still here from the 1700’s or the 1800’s because God capped the days of man to 120 years. God commanded His man Adam, saying, you are free to eat of every tree of the garden except from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Genesis 2:17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. God was plain with Adam that he would not be exempt from this law of sin and death and if they ate of the fruit of this tree they would surely die. Immediately upon eating of the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil Adam and Eve died spiritually. Adam lived 930 years but the spiritual death, which was being separated from the life of God, took place immediately upon their eating of the forbidden fruit. God, in His mercy, drove them from the garden so they would not eat from the tree of life and live forever in their fallen state. In reading the scriptures we must determine if they are speaking of spiritual death or physical death by the context in which it is written. When Jesus told Martha, whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die, He was speaking of spiritual life. Just prior to this Jesus had to plainly tell His disciples, Lazarus is dead, because they didn’t understand Him when He said Lazarus was sleeping. John 11:14 Then said Jesus unto them plainly, Lazarus is dead. Physical death is not the end and all who give their lives to Jesus will have no fear of the second death but rather eternal bliss. Jesus stated that God did not send Him into the world to condemn people but rather to save all who would believe
on His name. ( John 3:16-18 ) Man was already condemned through Adam’s sin. Romans 5:12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: Adam’s treasonous act of knowingly defying his Creator and his God was an offense that separated him from the life of God. This is the law of sin and death! Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. The law of sin and death has enslaved human beings to the degree they couldn’t do that which their heart desired and they wound up doing that which they hate. Immediately after revealing how the law of sin held him captive, Paul began to speak of how he got free. Rom. 7:25 I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.
Thank God that through Jesus Christ we now have a much more powerful law called the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus! Romans 8:2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. If satan had only known that Jesus death would be his demise, and man’s freedom from the power of death, he would not have crucified the Lord of Glory. Heb. 2:14 For as much then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; God counted Jesus suffering as payment for our sins and Christ resurrection as our resurrection! 2 Cor. 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. It was impossible for us to ever work hard enough or do anything that would make us righteous in God’s sight. Without Christ we were without hope and without God in this world. But thanks be unto God, we are not without Him! When we give our life to Jesus, we die to self, and are immediately immersed (baptized) into the body of Christ. Colossians 2:12 Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead. Christ resurrection is our resurrection as we see in the very next verse. God made us alive together with Jesus, forgave us of all our trespasses, and translated us into the Kingdom of His dear Son. Plus, we are made joint heirs with Jesus and seated together with Him at the Father’s right hand. This ought to make you shout! This law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus is what we need to focus on!
“The law of sin and death is the natural flow at work in the earth today. Nothing is required from you to receive the wages from this law of sin and death, just put off making Jesus Lord of your life, don’t open your Bible, don’t meditate on God’s word, stay away from church and everything that shines the light of truth. John 3:20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. Just a little folding of the hands to sleep and poverty will come on you.”
The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus is received by faith and activated through our words and action. Our number one action is to say what God says is ours and Jesus is High Priest over our confession. Rom. 5:17 For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ. We overcome by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony, loving not our own lives to the death. It will work for everyone who works it!

Eleven of the first 13 Colonies wanted slavery abolished from the very beginning but were unable to become unanimous! The 56 signers of The Declaration Of Independence paid a big price for their pledge of their lives, fortunes, and sacred honor. Thomas Jefferson wrote the longest phrase in the Declaration about wanting to be free from slavery. It wasn’t until Abraham Lincoln and the civil war till slavery was abolished.
