Come Boldly Unto The Throne Of Grace! By James Lantz
There is much that can be expounded on in these seven words, “come boldly unto the throne of grace”. Heb. 4:16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. The word come tells us that it is our responsibility to come to the only One who can grant us this grace. The word boldly describes how we are to approach God to receive this grace that has been opened to us through Jesus Christ. The word unto reveals the reality of this special place in the realm of the spirit. Referencing The Throne of grace verifies there is only one place to receive this mercy. The Throne speaks of a place where one is seated who has power and authority! Of leads us to the specifics of what kind of power flows from this throne. Grace speaks of every good thing that none of us deserve but that God freely gives to those who believe!
Lets examine our method of approach in coming to God. Remember, God is not a respecter of persons but rather a respecter of the faith in those who fear Him and do what is right. Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. Faith is bold to act on what God says because God can not lie and He is all powerful to cause what He said to come to pass. There were about three thousand people who believed Peter’s preaching at the initial outpouring of the Holy Spirit. When the revelation hit them that it was their sins that put Christ on the cross they were pricked in their hearts to ask, men and brethren, what shall we do? Those who gladly received Peter’s instructions turned

away from their vain life, were baptized, and gave themselves fully to the Lord Jesus and the apostles teachings. It took both honesty and boldness to turn away from their old life of selfishness and deceit to the giving of themselves fully to the Lord Jesus Christ. Faith came to these worshippers as Peter preached the word of Christ to them and that is why they could confidently give themselves to Jesus. We are not told how many refused to believe or just refused to follow the apostles instructions that day but Jesus emphasized continuing in His word. John 8:31&32 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. It appears that these Jews yielded to fear and did not follow Jesus instructions to continue with Him. The harvest or the reward that God has for us requires us to continue with Him! Luke 8:15 But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience. Approaching God with an honest heart is vital to receiving His help. Remember Jesus parable about the Pharisee who went up to the temple to pray. He began to tell God how righteous he was because he was no extortioner, nor an adulterer like some others, but that he fasted twice a week and paid tithes. We should take note that Jesus said he prayed thus with himself. No one is righteous in and of themselves!
Our righteousness is from the Lord! God made Jesus to be sin for us so that we could have His righteousness! God counts us as righteous when we believe Him! God counted those who believed Him to be righteous before Jesus was raised from the dead! Rom. 4:3 For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness. Isaiah tells about protection and safety that God’s righteousness offers to those who will speak up! Isaiah 54:17 No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD. David understood that God counted him as righteous through faith and thats why he could declare victory over that uncircumcised Philistine and his whole army. Rom. 4:6&7 Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works, Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered. David had the revelation that you have to believe the word of God in your heart and say it with your mouth.
Ps. 91:2 I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. The ninety first Psalm specifies that those who set their love on God and dwell with Him will be protected and delivered by God’s mighty angels when they declare His protection and deliverance. As the Spirit of God reveals there is a laboring to enter into that place of faith but then there is rest. Hebrews 4:11 Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief. He continues to reveal that we now have a better covenant through the blood of Jesus. Jesus is the Son of God and He became the sacrificial lamb, raised from the dead and given the name that is above every name, and He is the High Priest over our confession. We have access to God’s mercy and His grace through the blood of Jesus! Heb. 10:19 Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus,
The Greek word translated boldness in the verse above includes the meaning of all out-spokenness, frankness, bluntness, assurance, confidence, freely, openly, plainly or without ambiguity.
The patriarchs in the old covenant were counted as righteous through faith with their sins covered temporarily by the blood of bulls and goats until Jesus came and shed His blood for us all.
Another important ingredient for being bold when we approach the throne of grace is to know the will of God. In order to receive a miracle we must hear from God because thats the way we know His will. Jesus only said and did what He heard His Father say! In Jesus first miracle His mother said to the servants, whatever He says to you, do it. Noah had faith to build the ark because he heard from God. Peter could only walk on the water after he heard the Lord say come! Jehoshaphat and the people of Judah had faith for a great victory after they heard the word of the Lord. 2 Chron. 20:15 . . . Thus saith the LORD unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God’s. This prophetic word of the Lord only came after they obeyed what God had already said when He appeared to Solomon by night. They humbled themselves, prayed, sought God’s face, and turned from their wicked ways so God heard them, and forgave them, and gave them a great victory with much spoil! The gospel is the BLESSING OF THE LORD! The gospel is the power of God unto salvation to everyone who believes. God preached the gospel to Abraham and we have the gospel preached to us today! We have the more sure word of the Lord that it is His will for all to be saved, healed, filled with the Holy Spirit, protected, provided for, and made whole because that is the gospel of Christ! We can be assured that under a new and better covenant God’s desire to heal our land and bless His people has not diminished in any way. God would not have told us to pray, first of all, for our leaders if He didn’t want to intervene on our behalf. The Lord told us in first Timothy that it is His will that we live in a nation which allows us to lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. Jesus taught His disciples to pray that the Father’s will would be done in the earth just like it is in heaven! Heb. 10:22 Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.
