Bring Up Your Joy! : By Pastor Lantz

The joy of the Lord belongs to all who have entered the kingdom of God! This gift is a part of God’s nature that is imparted to all who are recreated in Christ.  2 Cor. 5:17  Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.  This obviously references our spirit since our minds must be transformed by meditation in God’s word and our bodies must be brought into subjection.  1 Corinthians 9:27 But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.  Most of us did not experience any changes in our physical body when we were born from above and very little change in our souls. Peter and Paul write about the inward man referencing the spirit of man as the real you and your body as the outward man. The soul and spirit are so closely entwined that it takes the living word of God to distinguish between them.  Hebrews 4:12  For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.  Jesus exposed the three parts of man in the account of the rich man and Lazarus. ( see Luke 16 ) The redemption of our physical bodies will take place when our Lord appears in the air to catch His Bride away in the rapture of the church. Our bodies will be changed into a flesh and bone body like His glorious body in the twinkling of an eye.  1 John 3:2  Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.  Our souls, consisting of our mind, will, and emotions are only transformed into the image of Christ by purposing to think God’s thoughts, and the putting off the old man and putting on the new.  Romans 12:2  And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.  However, our spirit was made complete in the new birth and all the fruit of the Spirit was deposited in us through Christ.  Col. 2:10  And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:  This confirms that the new man in Christ is fully equipped with the life of God and everything necessary to walk in the Spirit.  Galatians 5:22 & 23  But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.  The gift of the baptism of the Holy Spirit is a great assist in the developing and exercising of all the fruit of the Spirit! Do not allow the devil to steal your joy or he will rule over you.

There is joy in believing God!  Rom. 15:13  Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.  The opposite is true as well if we believe the lies of the enemy. Believing lies opens the door to fear, worry, and depression. Jacob believed a lie that his son Joseph was dead and grieved for years. If Joseph was dead, grieving would not bring him back to life, and think of all the joy that Jacob could have experienced had he focused on the good that he had. The secret to being depressed is to think about what you don’t have, what you can’t do, and who you are not! The children of Israel who believed the lie that they couldn’t enter the promised land cried all night and ended up dying in the wilderness.  Num. 14:1  And all the congregation lifted up their voice, and cried; and the people wept that night.  God told them that He had given them the land but instead of believing that God would empower them to overcome they believed a lie. Believers are to focus on who we are in Christ, what we have in Christ, and what we can do in Christ! Faith rejoices, gives thanks, and is glad, but doubt complains, despairs, and is sad! Joshua and Caleb kept their joy in believing God for forty five years and then led the younger generation into the land God promised them!

The good news is that no matter what set backs, disappointments, or tragedy we may have experienced, God has a redemptive plan for us. If we will look to the Lord and call upon Him with expectation, He will help us! Any believer not experiencing joy that was deposited in them at the new birth needs to seek the Lord as to what changes are needed. God has a solution for every problem! Draw near unto God and He will draw near to you. The curse does not come without a cause but thank God, Jesus bore the curse that was on mankind.  Gal. 3:13&14  Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.  Walking in the blessing brings joy! The joy comes when we believe, even before the answer to our prayer is manifest. Love, joy, and peace are great indicators that we are expecting something good. David talked to his soul, Bless the Lord, Oh my soul, and all that is within me, bless His holy name! He forgives all our iniquities and heals all our diseases! He redeems our life from destruction and crowns us with loving kindness and tender mercies! God gave us His word, which is His power, telling us to put it in our mouth and He will cause it to come to pass.  Isaiah 57:19  I create the fruit of the lips; Peace, peace to him that is far off, and to him that is near, saith the LORD;   IN HIS PRESENCE IS FULLNESS OF JOY!

Are You Being A Meat head?

Being a meat head is just slang for acting carnal. Carnal comes from a root word meaning fleshly or meat. If we are acting as one ruled by our flesh then we are in that category of being a meat head. Being ruled by the flesh just means that our decisions and actions are made according to the five physical senses with no regard to the word of the Lord and the leading of His Spirit. Our ability to see, hear, feel, taste, and smell is a gift from God that we are to use every day of our life unless or until the Spirit of God shows us otherwise. Noah would have concluded that building the ark was foolish and unnecessary if he went by his natural senses instead of what God said since it had never rained before. The owner of the ship that that went down in the storm mentioned in the twenty seventh chapter of Acts would not have lost his ship if he would have believed the man of God. Instead they sailed when the weather looked favorable but soon experienced a terrible storm which caused the ship and cargo to be lost. Paul writes to the Corinthian church about their envying, strife, and divisions as being carnal. Those who are acting carnally have their thoughts and attention on carnal or natural things.  Rom. 8:5  For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.  The Spirit of God warns us that being carnally minded is death but being spiritually minded is life and peace.  Rom. 8:7  Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.  Those who walk after the flesh can not please God meaning they are not in faith, because faith pleases God. Receiving healing is directly related to walking in the Spirit!

So let’s get our minds on that which pleases God. Spiritual people love the reading of God’s word and hearing it preached so they can keep it on their minds and in their mouth. They delight greatly in God’s commandments! Being spiritual people doesn’t mean we don’t do natural things or prosper financially, it just means that we follow God’s instructions and look to Him to bless us. For a congregation of believers to effectively win the lost in their community their thoughts and energies need to be on the word of the Lord and that which is eternal. Building the church today is similar to Noah building the ark. Noah put his money and his efforts towards that which was most important and how foolish it would have been to try to build himself a mansion when the flood was coming.
