Eradicating Unbelief: By James L Lantz
The world we live in is full of unbelief and rebellion which was proposed to Adam and Eve in the garden. The enemy’s tactic is to cause people to doubt and mistrust God’s goodness and His good plan for their life and future. Remember the rich man who pled with Abraham to send Lazarus back from the dead to speak with his five brothers so they would believe God and not enter that awful place of torment. Luke 16:28 For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment. Abraham said, Let them hear what Moses and the prophets taught, and if they won’t believe them, they won’t believe though one rise from the dead. Now that Jesus is risen from the dead people still have to choose to believe the truth of God’s word or to believe a lie. Jesus relayed how our Father in heaven is quick to answer the prayers of His elect when they pray in faith believing. Luke 18:8 I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth? The central theme of this parable is that we ought always pray expecting our gracious Heavenly Father to hear and answer us! Jesus ending comment, when I return will I find faith on the earth tells us that unbelief will be rampant and faith will be rare in these last days. Faith has always been rare, and the exception, from the time of Adam’s betrayal in the garden until now. God is eager for His people to ask Him for the things they need and that which they desire and expect Him to answer speedily! John 16:24 Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.
One kind of unbelief is where people just don’t know of God’s power and willingness to help in their time of need and so God teaches them. The more dangerous kind of unbelief is when God has done miracle after miracle for folks and yet they still refuse to believe Him. The first generation of Israelites delivered from Egyptian bondage saw the mighty plagues God used to convince Pharaoh to let them go and the opening of the Red sea. They witnessed God drowning the whole Egyptian Army in the Red Sea and yet they refused to believe God would take them into the promised land. There comes a point that God knows that no matter how many times I speak to them they will not obey Me and God says, that’s it. Num. 14:22 Because all those men which have seen my glory, and my miracles, which I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and have tempted me now these ten times, and have not hearkened to my voice; Num. 14:23 Surely they shall not see the land which I sware unto their fathers, neither shall any of them that provoked me see it: God had determined from the foundation of the world that their generation would go into the promised land but they refused to believe God’s good plan, and thus they missed out. Unbelief must be eradicated from our life so we can enter into all the blessing God has for us! Heb. 4:11 Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.
Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of Christ! Jesus was born during a time of great darkness in the earth, meaning their was very little revelation of The Christ. Jesus began His ministry proclaiming that the kingdom of God was at hand and that men must repent and believe the gospel. Jesus went about teaching and preaching and healing the sick! People need to hear so they can believe. It only takes a little bit of faith to receive from God. Sometimes we think we need more faith and what we really need is more hearing. It doesn’t work to have a little bit of faith and a little bit of unbelief. The unbelief must be removed! Jesus was launched into His ministry when The Holy Spirit came on Him and fame went out about Him in the region. When He came to His home town of Nazareth He opened the scriptures and read that The Spirit of The Lord was upon Me to preach the gospel to the poor, to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, and to preach the acceptable year of the Lord. Nazareth was a rough place and the unbelief was so strong they tried to kill Jesus. John 1:46 And Nathanael said unto him, Can there any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip saith unto him, Come and see. Teaching and preaching the gospel is still the major way for people to hear and believe.
Jesus gave His twelve disciples, and later the seventy, power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases. Upon Jesus return from the mountain where he was transfigured as white as the light of the sun he was met with a man whose son had a dumb spirit. This demon would tear him to the ground where he would wallow and foam and often throw him into the fire and water to destroy him. This father said to Jesus, I asked your disciples to cast the spirit out of him, but they could not. He said to Jesus, If you can do anything, have compassion on us and help us. Mark 9:23 Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth. When the father heard this, he cried out with tears, Lord, I believe, help me from unbelief. Jesus rebuked the foul spirit by saying, You deaf and dumb spirit, I charge you, come out of him and enter him no more. The spirit cried and rent him sore, and came out of him. Later, His disciples asked Him, Why could not we cast him out? Matthew revealed in his account that it was because of their unbelief that they couldn’t cast the demon out and Jesus gave the remedy. Mt. 17:21 Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting. “This kind of unbelief must be gotten out through prayer and fasting.”
The laboring that we do to enter into God’s rest, that place of faith by which we take hold of the promises of God is becoming clearer. It is laboring in the Word of God by reading, hearing God’s Word taught and preached, meditating God’s Word, speaking God’s Word, and praying God’s Word. Being a doer of The Word means we continue to believe when satan brings trouble and persecution to separate us from God. Being a doer of the Word means that we refuse to allow the cares of this world, the deceitfulness of riches, and the lust of other things to pull us away from going to church, reading His Word, fellowshipping with the saints, and spending time in prayer. Add fasting into this list of what it means to be a doer of The Word. Those who get caught up in the cares of this world, the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things are actually practicing fasting in reverse. Let’s fast the things of this world so we can be strong in faith and overcome the evil in this world! Rev. 3:5 He that over cometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.
Feed Your spirit And Grow In Faith! We are saved through faith!
We train our minds by going to school and getting knowledge, and we exercise our bodies for greater conditioning and strength, but what are we doing to be strong in faith. When we were born from above we became a new creature in Christ, our spirit man was recreated in the image of Christ. 2 Cor. 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. We, the man on the inside, the inward man, or the spirit or heart of man was made perfect, or complete. Col. 2:10 And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power: We have the love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control in us seed form! God’s word is spirit food! Jesus said God’s word is spirit and life! John 6:63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. Peter writes of the importance of newborns to desire the sincere milk of the word. As we mature, grow skillful in handling of the word, we continue to desire the meat of God’s word. Learning how to pray is more valuable than a college education. Feeding on the Word of God causes faith to come and gives us knowledge of God’s grace! We are saved through faith! Without faith we can not please God nor find and follow His plan for our life. The righteous live by faith! We walk by faith! We overcome the evil one by faith!
Mt. 7:24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:
Pro. 4:20 My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings.
Pro. 4:21 Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart.
Pro. 4:22 For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.
Pro. 4:23 Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.

Prayer For The Sick!
In January of 1987, Brian Wills was preparing to leave for Europe to play professional tennis when he was diagnosed with a rare, often fatal cancer of the lymph system. Known as Burkitt’s Lymphoma, it is one of the fastest growing cancers in the world. It is usually found in Africa where it kills newborn infants within a few hours. The tumor in Brian’s abdomen grew from the size of a golf ball to nine inches in diameter in three days. Brian spent eight months at the National Institute of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland and was healed supernaturally by the power of God.
While fighting for his life, Brian called on the name of the Lord. He promised the Lord that he would go wherever the Lord wanted him to go, speak to whomever the Lord wanted him to speak, and say whatever the Lord wanted him to say if the Lord would raise him up off his death bed. Brian’s spontaneous healing left the doctors in shock and without any medical explanation. He was made the “poster child” for the National Cancer Institute. Brian’s testimony has been featured in Kenneth Copeland’s Voice of Victory Magazine and also Pat Robertson’s broadcast of the 700 Club.
Brian travels and ministers in Churches, Bible Schools, Crusade’s, Conferences, College Campuses and wherever the Lord sends him in the US and abroad. Brian holds healing workshops and healing services and ministers to the sick. Brian’s book, titled, “Ten Hours to Live” is much more than a testimonial, it is a healing handbook every christian should have.
Brian and his wife Beth live near Richmond, Virginia and have four children, Madeline, Emily, Jessica, and Preston.
