Proverbs 10:5 He that gathereth in summer is a wise son: but he that sleepeth in harvest is a son that causeth shame.

Don’t Nullify God’s Grace! By James L Lantz

Who in their right mind would refuse to receive benefits, favors, and gifts from a good God who gives us richly all things to enjoy? I suppose the devil himself would not have forfeited his prestigious position in heaven if he were thinking straight. Regardless of how that all unfolded grace has been extended to you and I. God’s gift to the sinner is eternal life! All who receive Jesus as Lord of their life are welcomed into the family of God!  1 John 5:11  And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. God’s grace is His empowering us to freely receive that which we could not receive or accomplish on our own!  John 1:12  But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:  Those who trust in their own goodness spurn the gift of righteousness which is only available through Jesus Christ.  Jer. 17:5  Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD.  The Spirit of God through Paul reveals that Israel’s zeal for God did not bring them salvation because they rejected the knowledge of God.  Rom. 10:3  For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.  They tried to be righteous by keeping God’s commandments but the keeping of the commandments could not bring them into eternal life.  Gal. 3:21  Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law.  God ushered in a new and better covenant through faith in Jesus Christ! God knew that the old covenant and the keeping of the law was unable to restore fallen man to that place of righteousness to rule and reign with Him, but it was our schoolmaster to show us our need for the Savior. James 2:10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all. The old covenant was good in that man could have his sins temporarily covered over by the blood of animals enabling him to walk in the Blessing of the Lord, yet not the full redemption which gives us new life through Christ.

God’s grace for eternal life is not in the lowering of His righteous standard but rather empowering those who receive Jesus with a new life.  Rom. 8:2  For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.  The same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead delivered us from the power of darkness and translated us into the kingdom of His dear Son. Our sins are forgiven and we have redemption through Jesus shed blood. We have been freed from the law of sin and death and thrust by the Spirit of God into eternal life! Airplanes are grounded until the thrust of their engines pushes them to speeds where the law of lift then supersedes the law of gravity. For thousands of years birds were enjoying flying through the air and more recently man has discovered the laws of aerodynamics allowing planes to fly defying the law of gravity. It was possible all along but only accessed recently through revelation and understanding given by God. The revelation and the power to walk free from the law of sin and death has been available for two thousand years and yet many are still bound. Only when we realize the magnitude of God’s great redemption through Christ’s suffering and resurrection will we see ourselves as victorious and more than a conqueror. In Romans five we read how the life Jesus brought us through His rising from the dead is much more powerful than the law of sin and death unleashed through Adam’s sin. Romans 5:17  For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ. Jesus taught us how to get the full harvest on everything offered through the Word of God!  Luke 8:15  But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience.  Of course, those who don’t do, or don’t continue to do what God says will not experience the Blessing of the Lord.

The Lord Jesus instructed Paul to teach and preach that we are to receive forgiveness of sins and receive the inheritance provided by Him!  Acts 26:18  To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me. God is pleased when people receive that which He has provided for them. You are like that also, when you cook dinner you want your children to eat it, when you offer to pay to take the whole family on a weeks vacation you want them all to come. God likes faith because it is through faith in Christ that we access His grace.  Heb. 11:6  But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. Notice that God said we must believe, meaning there is no other way.  Ephesians 2:8  For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Believers are commanded to live by faith! Believing has to do with that which is not seen and that which is not yet. Faith is the substance of things! Paul received this revelation of salvation by grace through faith directly from the Lord Jesus! He understood perfectly that grace was a gift that was received through believing God and not by keeping the law.  Gal. 2:16  Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.  All the apostles understood that God’s grace is received through faith as they had endorsed Paul’s ministry and extended the right hand of fellowship to him. Paul rebuked Peter publicly when he saw his hypocrisy in withdrawing from eating with the gentile believers. Peter with drew from the gentile believers when those of the circumcision showed up.  Gal. 2:11 AMPC  But when Cephas (Peter) came to Antioch, I protested and opposed him to his face [concerning his conduct there], for he was blameable and stood condemned.  Peter’s actions were saying that God’s grace was on them because of the Hebrews superior diet contrary to faith in Christ and it was causing others to get their eyes on pleasing God through works instead of by faith. Paul held to the truth of the gospel and refused to be intimidated by men of prestige. The determining factor of us being accepted by God is not what church we go to, what clothes we wear, or by keeping the law of Moses, but only by believing that we are righteous through Jesus Christ.
Galatians 2:21 AMPC  [Therefore, I do not treat God’s gracious gift as something of minor importance and defeat its very purpose]; I do not set aside and invalidate and frustrate and nullify the grace (unmerited favor) of God. For if justification (righteousness, acquittal from guilt) comes through [observing the ritual of] the Law, then Christ (the Messiah) died groundlessly and to no purpose and in vain. [His death was then wholly superfluous.]  Expecting to receive of God’s grace because of our own goodness or works will nullify or stop us from receiving from Him. God’s grace is for all but it is only received according to the power working in us!  Eph. 3:20  Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,       FAITH, HOPE, AND LOVE!

God Is Looking Around To See Who Is Making Room For Him!

Servant Healed From Near Death!

A centurion from Capernaum who loved the nation of Israel had built them a synagogue. When his servant who was dear to him, was sick and about to die, he asked the elders of the Jews to request Jesus help. When Jesus approached his house he sent word to Jesus that it wasn’t necessary for Him to enter his house but to just speak the word and his servant would be healed. Luke 7:9 When Jesus heard these things, he marvelled at him, and turned him about, and said unto the people that followed him, I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel. When those that were sent returned to the house they found his servant healed!

A Whole Household Saved!

A devout centurion who he with all his family feared God gave many alms and prayed to God always had a vision. He saw an angel in this vision who told him that his prayers and alms giving had come up for a memorial before God and that he should send for Peter who would tell him how to be saved. Acts 10:4 And when he looked on him, he was afraid, and said, What is it, Lord? And he said unto him, Thy prayers and thine alms are come up for a memorial before God. God prepared Peter to accept this invitation to go to this gentiles house knowing it was against their Jewish customs and that he would be criticized. As soon as Peter told them that Jesus brought salvation to whosoever would believe they received salvation and were filled with the Holy Spirit!
Acts 10:43-48 To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins. While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word. And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter, Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.
