Esteeming God’s Word! : By James L Lantz
Esteeming God’s word is an expression of our love and honor towards God! The psalmist wrote, I esteem all your precepts to be right and I hate every false way. To esteem in this Psalm includes the meaning of to think, regard, value, and compute. This same Hebrew word is translated esteemed in Isaiah 53 referencing that men did not think, regard, value, nor reckon Jesus to be The Son of God who suffered in our stead. Isaiah 53:3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Jesus is the word that became flesh and only those who recognize Him as The Messiah, The Savior of the world, will esteem Him and come to Him! Those who highly value God’s word are esteeming Jesus and esteeming the Father because Jesus only spoke what He heard the Father say. David brought forth psalms from the Lord, saying, The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul, the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart, the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes. The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever. The judgements of the Lord are altogether true and righteous. More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold, sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. Moreover by them we are warned, and there is great reward in keeping them. Jesus expounded on this warning to depart from iniquity to keep us from hearing those terrible words, depart from Me. He expounds on the blessing as well.
God’s Words Are Life To Those Who Find Them And Health To All Their Flesh!
Mt. 7:24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: Job refers to esteeming God’s word more than his necessary food! Job 23:12 AMPC I have not gone back from the commandment of His lips; I have esteemed and treasured the words of His mouth more than my necessary food. The psalmist declares, Thy word have I hid in my heart, that I might not sin against you! So we see that esteeming God’s word is to treasure and hold firmly to it for the purpose of pleasing our Father. The Lord recorded that David was a man after His own heart who fulfilled all His will! God showed Moses how Israel would corrupt themselves after his death and turn aside from His commandments, worshipping other gods, so He gave him a song. Have Israel teach this song to their children that it might be a witness for Me against the children of Israel. Included in this song it states that God’s people, Israel, are His portion and His inheritance! Deut. 32:15 AMPC But Jeshurun (Israel) grew fat and kicked. You became fat, you grew thick, you were gorged and sleek! Then he forsook God Who made him and forsook and despised the Rock of his salvation. Deut. 32:18 AMPC Of the Rock Who bore you you were unmindful; you forgot the God Who travailed in your birth. The word of the Lord was delivered to Eli that judgement was coming to his house because he honored his sons above the Lord by allowing them to fornicate and steal God’s offerings. 1 Sam. 2:30 Wherefore the LORD God of Israel saith, I said indeed that thy house, and the house of thy father, should walk before me for ever: but now the LORD saith, Be it far from me; for them that honour me I will honour, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed. This word shows that refusing to do that which God requires, when it is in our knowledge and power to do it, we dishonor and despise the Lord. The apostles gave a list of four things that Gentile believers were to abstain from which included sex outside of marriage. Acts 15:29 That ye abstain from meats offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication: from which if ye keep yourselves, ye shall do well. Fare ye well. In the Ephesian letter we are told that fornication and all uncleanness, among other sins, should not be named once among the saints. This will help someone, if we judge ourselves we will not be judged!
We esteem God’s word by listening to those who teach and preach the things of the Kingdom, by reading our bible, by meditating on His word, but ultimately by doing the word. It really does matter who and what we are listening to because only the gospel has the power to save, heal, and deliver! Rom. 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. Faith comes by hearing the word of Christ! Paul was preaching the gospel in Lystra when he perceived that a crippled man had faith to be healed. Paul said with a loud voice, stand upright on your feet, and he leaped and walked. He acted on his faith and was healed. Faith without action gets the same results as one with no faith. We can say we esteem God’s word to be more precious than gold but our actions reveal what we prize the most. Are you excited about your daily bible reading or do you just read it out of duty, and what do you think about when you have free time? They that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh and they that are after the Spirit do mind the things of the Spirit. God’s words are spirit and they are life and medicine to all our flesh! Glory to God saints! This is AWESOME! We are saved by receiving God’s incorruptible seed about salvation! 1 Pet. 1:23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. We have faith to receive the Holy Spirit when we hear God’s offer to fill us with His Spirit. Luke 11:13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him? Healing is received by receiving God’s incorruptible seed about healing! Every seed produces after its kind. We are protected by receiving God’s word on protection and so it is in receiving all of God’s promises. God’s words are spirit and are received by human spirits through a moment of intimacy. Seed is translated from the greek word spora and our english word sperm is a derivative from spora. God’s incorruptible word is received by those who highly esteem Him! Jesus revealed the process of receiving the word of God and bringing forth the harvest in the parable of the sower. Only one out of four people will esteem and value God’s incorruptible word enough to take and
hold fast to, and forfeit other things, and persevere until they experience what God promised. Those by the wayside did not esteem God’s word as precious and the devil came immediately to steal the word from their heart. Those with stony hearts received God’s word with joy but in the time of testing they folded and quit believing. Those with the thorny hearts believed but refused to cast their cares on the Lord and separate from those things which chocked the word out of them. Thank God there are those of us who esteem God’s word and magnify it above His name. We will continue in the face of persecution, we will set aside things that are unprofitable, we will discipline our flesh, we will sacrifice worldly pleasures, and we will press on till we receive the prize! Luke 8:15 But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience. We don’t need perfect understanding to follow our Lord’s instructions. Find out what God said, begin to speak it, meditate on it continually so you will observe to do it, and then it will come to pass in your life. Joshua 1:8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.
So Great A Salvation!
Jesus, our Savior, being the brightness of God’s glory and the express image of his person is upholding all things by the word of His power and has purged us of our sins! Our Father and our God has begotten many more children since He raised Jesus, the first begotten from the dead. We are heirs of salvation, joint heirs with Jesus! The angels have been sent here to minister for us!
Heb. 1:14 Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?
The world to come has been put in subjection to us, the body of Christ.
Heb. 2:11 For both he that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all of one: for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren,
Jesus took on flesh and blood and through His death He destroyed the devil who held the power of death. We are one with Him! Then devil is under our feet!
Heb. 2:14 Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;
