Luke 11:30 CEV Just as Jonah was a sign to the people of Nineveh,
the Son of Man will be a sign to the people of today.

The Sign Of Jonah! : by James L Lantz

God does signs and wonders confirming that He is real and cares about His earth and the welfare of men on the earth. God set the sun and the moon in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night and for signs and seasons and days and years. God told Moses he was to take his rod in his hand with which he was to do signs. God made covenant with Noah after the flood and with it He promised to never destroy the earth with a flood again. God said, every time I see the rainbow in the sky I will remember My covenant with you and every living creature on the earth.  Genesis 9:13  I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth.  I am sure this was a comforting reminder to Noah and his family whenever they experienced rain storms. It still comforts us today knowing that God isn’t destroying us when we hear the thunder and see the lighting. Signs are also for confirming who God is and who He has anointed. Pharaoh saw sign after sign that revealed God’s power yet he still refused to believe God and was destroyed. The children of Israel who were delivered from Egypt saw miracle after miracle but chose to believe their hardships and contradictory circumstances rather than what God said. God reminds us today that we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which He said, lest at any time we should let them slip. For if those who transgressed and disobeyed the steadfast word spoken by angels were punished as they deserved. How shall we escape punishment if we neglect and refuse to pay attention to so great a salvation, which was first spoken to us by the Lord Himself, and confirmed to be real and genuine by those who personally heard Him speak.

Signs And Wonders Confirm God’s Word!

Hebrews 2:4 ASV  God also bearing witness with them, both by signs and wonders, and by manifold powers, and by gifts of the Holy Spirit, according to his own will.  God in His goodness has not limited His anointing to be only for Jesus first disciples, but poured out His Spirit for all to receive. Jesus named five supernatural signs that will follow those who believe in the power of His name.  Mark 16:17  And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; Mark 16:18  They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.  These signs are proof that you are a believer in the power of Jesus name! Devils leave, you speak in unknown tongues, you are protected from deadly poison and people get well after you lay your hands on them! After the commissioning to take the gospel to every person, Mark’s gospel reveals that these signs are God confirming His word.  Mark 16:20 ASV  And they went forth, and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word by the
signs that followed. Amen.  These are signs of God’s goodness for those who do not yet believe. The world will know who the true believers are by the sign of love, by how we love one another.

Now that we discussed various ways God reveals Himself through signs and wonders lets look at why Jesus told the religious leaders that no sign would be given them except the sign off Jonah. As you may recall, God called His prophet Jonah to warn the people of Nineveh that they were about to be judged for their wickedness. Jonah decided he wasn’t going to Nineveh and fled from Jehovah by boarding a ship to Tarshish. God caused a great storm in the sea where Jonah was sailing and the ship sailing to Tarshish was in danger of being broken in pieces. When it was discovered that Jonah was running from Jehovah the sailors eventually agreed to throw Jonah overboard. As soon as Jonah was thrown overboard the raging of the sea ceased and the men feared Jehovah exceedingly. God was merciful to Jonah and gave him additional time to reconsider by having a great fish swallow him.
After three days of being wrapped in seaweed and suffering inside this great fish his thoughts were drawn to God’s mercy and compassion and he began to pray. Jonah acknowledged and forsook his sin of rebellion, asked God for His mercy, committed to do His will, and lifted up his voice thanking God for deliverance.  Jonah 2:8  They that observe lying vanities forsake their own mercy.  So the Lord spoke to the fish, and it vomited Jonah out unto dry land. The word of the Lord came to Jonah the second time, saying arise, go to the great city of Nineveh and preach what I tell you to preach. Jonah entered the city and preached that Nineveh would be overthrown in forty days. The Ninevites repented and turned from their wicked ways and God changed from His intended judgement and extended mercy and did not destroy the city. Jesus said it was evil unbelief for the people of His day to ask Him for a miraculous sign when they were seeing and hearing of all the wonderful miracles and healings He was already doing.  Luke 11:29 NLT  As the crowd pressed in on Jesus, he said, “This evil generation keeps asking me to show them a miraculous sign. But the only sign I will give them is the sign of Jonah.  Then Jesus said, What happened to Jonah was a sign to the people of Nineveh that God sent him. You can imagine how the word spread through Nineveh of God’s fierce judgement coming on the ship Jonah had boarded towards Tarshish. As soon as Jonah was thrown over board the sea became calm and the men greatly feared Jehovah and sacrificed to Him and made vows.

Ezekiel 33:6  But if the watchman see the sword come, and blow not the trumpet, and the people be not warned; if the sword come, and take any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at the watchman’s hand.
( A note to the wise, this does not mean that we have to speak Jesus to everyone we meet, but we must warn those we are responsible for and those to whom the Lord leads us to speak to.)

Luke records Jesus warning to the people of His generation. The queen of the south and the men of Nineveh will rise up in judgement of this generation because you refused to repent when one greater than Jonah and greater than Solomon was in your midst. The queen of Sheba traveled from the end of the earth to hear Solomon’s wisdom bringing him a hundred and twenty talents of gold, abundance of spices, and precious stones. The greatness of the King determines the greatness of the gift to be brought! Unlike those in Nineveh who repented at Jonah’s preaching and the Queen of Sheba who invested heavily in search of the truth, the majority of people in Capernaum were not interested in hearing God’s Son.  Mt. 9:26  And the fame hereof went abroad into all that land.  God so honored them with Jesus living in their midst yet they didn’t care enough to attend His meetings and receive His message to repent and believe the gospel.  Luke 10:15  And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted to heaven, shalt be thrust down to hell.  Jesus explained to His newest disciples how the people of Capernaum who wouldn’t listen to Him were really despising Father God and ultimately eternal life.
Luke 10:16 He that heareth you heareth me; and he that despiseth you despiseth me; and he that despiseth me despiseth him that sent me. God works through messengers, whoever they might be.
He is telling the seventy new disciples how to respond to those who receive His words and how to respond to those who reject His words. Those who refuse to hear the messenger are refusing to hear Jesus, and those who refuse Jesus are rejecting the Father. Truth is truth, no matter who speaks it!

Do You Know What Islam proclaims?

The founder of Islam is Mohammad and they have a book called the Quran which they name someone other than Jesus Christ and Father God to be their god. They acknowledge that Jesus Christ is a prophet but deny that He is the Son of God. Jesus said that He is the Son of God and there is no other way to the Father than through Him. Muslims deny the Christ and therefore they deny the Father! In their book they say that it is right to kill everyone who is none Muslim which they call infidels. There stated goal is to take over the world and make everyone be a Muslim and abide by Sharia Law. We understand they have places in the United States that are doing that now. This is very contrary to our United States constitution which is based very much from Judeo Christian beliefs. Islam is a political system run by terrorists who call it a religion. There god wants them to die for him. Our God gave us His Son, Jesus, who died for us that we might have life and have it more abundantly. Our Lord Jesus Christ is risen from the dead and through His resurrection we are resurrected to new life. Their prophet has not risen from the dead but his teaching is that if you can kill non Muslims you will be rewarded in the after life. This is why Muslims are willing to die if they can blow up many non Muslims.
It is hard to imagine that our founding fathers would have considered Islam to be a religion when they worship a false god and teach that all non muslims must convert or be killed. Our freedom of religion is meant that all people can worship the One true God in the way they understand the scriptures. In other words the Presbyterians, Methodist, Mennonites, Pentecostal, the Amish and all others who name Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior! Our first amendment gives protection for the freedom to worship God, freedom to speak, freedom of press, freedom to assemble, and the right to petition our government to redress grievances. It’s important that people understand what Muslims actually teach from their book which is a book of bondage and terror. Iran’s leadership has stated for 47 years their desire to eliminate Israel from the face of the earth and death to America. Thank God President Trump is saying they shall never have atomic weapons.

Special Healing Service Saturday evening, April 25th at 6:30 PM

God does not want us to forget our kingdom benefits. The very first two mentioned in Psalms 103:3 is forgiveness of all our iniquities and healing of all our diseases. These are top priorities with the Lord! Jesus spent His earthly ministry teaching, and preaching, and healing the sick showing us Father God’s priorities!
