The Blessing Wall! By James Lantz
A wall is generally perceived as a protective or restrictive barrier or a part of a structure. God has placed a protective wall or shield around his covenant people to protect them from the work of the enemy. God put his blessing on Adam and Eve which empowered them to take dominion over everything on the earth. The wall came down through their disobedience but God would not quit pursuing bringing his blessing to every human being that would be born in the earth. God blessed Noah and his sons. Then God found a man named Abram who he could bless and through Abraham the blessing of the Lord was brought to every man. Gen. 12:3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed. The angel of the Lord confirmed at Jesus birth, that good tidings of great joy were to be to all people! Jesus brought the blessing back to all who receive him! Gal. 3:13&14 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: that the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. This wall can not be seen with the natural eye but it is so real in the spirit realm. This wall of blessing keeps the evil one from destroying us and yet allows the Lord’s blessings to come on us in abundance. The blessing wall kept the plague of the flies away from God’s people in Goshen while all of Egypt was destroyed by the swarms of flies. Ex. 8:23 And I will put a division between my people and thy people . . . Many generations later the King of Syria warred against Israel. Every time the Syrian army would be lying in wait to ambush the King of Israel, Israel would change its route, thus missing the ambush. This happened so many times that the King of Syria asked his servants, who among us is telling the Israelis our secret plans. They said, it is not us who is betraying you, O King, but the prophet Elisha is telling the King of Israel every thing you say in your bedroom. The King of Syria said, find out where Elisha is, and we will capture him. (This may be the answer to the question, how dumb can you get) Upon locating Elisha, the King of Syria sent a great host of his army and surrounded the city of Dothan by night. When Elisha’s servant saw the great host of horses and chariots of the Syrian army that had circled their city, he was afraid, and exclaimed, how shall we do? Elisha said, fear not, there are more with us than be with them. Elisha prayed that God would allow his servant to see the warring angels that were protecting them. 2 Kings 6:17 . . . And the Lord opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha. This wall of blessing will be the determining factor of whether we live or die, whether we prosper or are broke, whether we are sick or well. Satan referred to this wall of blessing as a hedge that God had placed around Job. Job 1:10 Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land. Satan is not all knowing, and apparently didn’t see that Job was now making sacrifices for his children’s sins in fear causing gaping holes in his wall of blessing. God pointed out to Satan that all Job had was already in his power, but don’t touch his life. It is amazing how the devil, through false teachers, has deceived some of God’s people into believing that God killed his servants, and God killed his cattle, and God killed his children. The bible clearly states that Satan smote Job with boils and God is the one who turned Jobs captivity. (Job 2:7 & 42:10) Thank God we have the testimony of Jesus who said, the thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy, but I have come that you might have the life of God and have it more abundantly (John 10:10).
This wall of blessing can be referred to as the wall of faith, or God’s anointing, or the blessing of the Lord. Ps. 3:8 Salvation belongeth unto the Lord: thy blessing is upon thy people. Se-lah (Stop and think about this) The twenty third Psalms speaks of the blessing of the Lord for us today! Think about the blessing of the Lord bringing you into a position of having every thing you want here in this life while your enemies are around you. The ninety first Psalms tells us of the protection that God gives to those close to him who are bold enough to proclaim it. The blessing of the Lord includes giving us a long life until we are satisfied. I don’t know about you, but I am not going to be satisfied until I have finished what God has given me to do. Ps. 68:19 Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. Se-lah We have been given a new and better covenant which includes all of the great benefits of the old, plus the privilege to come into the Holy of Holies and receive from his mercy. And the answer will not be no and it will not be wait a while, but the answer will be yes, and Amen! 2 Cor. 1:20 For all the promises of God in him are yea (yes), and in him Amen (so be it), unto the glory of God by us. When we come boldly before the throne of grace in His righteousness, the answer will be yes, because the Lord rules with a scepter of righteousness.
Every child of God is given this blessing wall upon becoming a member of God’s family. No wonder Jesus told his disciples, rather rejoice that your names are written in the book of life. Stay in faith because we receive kingdom benefits by faith. We walk by faith and not by sight. God does not receive any mans person. We are received by God because we have received his Son, Jesus, and believe that Jesus made us righteous. 2 Cor. 13:5 Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates (unapproved or rejected)? People always want to know why bad things happen to some and not others. Some told Jesus about the Galilieans who were gruesomely murdered by Pilot’s soldiers while making sacrifices. They wanted to know if these were murdered because they were worse sinners than someone else. Jesus took this opportunity to teach them that unless they repent (change and come under His blessing) they will all likewise perish. Jesus taught that protection is not automatic but is granted to those who love him and choose to believe him. (see Luke 13:1- 5)
Are there things that God’s people can do that will open the door for evil and tragedy to enter their life? Absolutely, God has exposed the mistakes of his saints in his word so that we can avoid them. 2 Tim. 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: Adam and Eve disobeyed a simple command and caused spiritual death to come on every man. Cain refused to be instructed in how to bring God an acceptable offering and the murder of his brother follows. Lot’s wife’s soul was so attached to the things of this world that it caused her to turn into a pillar of salt. Job allowed great fear into his life which brought death and destruction (Job 3:25&26). The children of Israel refused to believe God as Caleb and Joshua urged them to go up at once and possess their inheritance. This angered the Lord but he still gave them what they said, they said they wished they had died in the wilderness. The children of Israel complained against God and against Moses saying, wherefore have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in this wilderness, and were bitten by snakes. After being established as King over all Israel David became discontented and unthankful for what God had done for him and fell into adultery and murder which brought him much trouble in his family. Solomon must have thought that he could handle having some idol worshiping wives but little by little his heart was turned from the Lord God of Israel. God in his mercy offers us a way out of temptation and even when we have not resisted the temptation, but yielded to sin, God offers us a way back to himself. The way back is called repentance, a heartfelt change, genuine remorse and the commitment to do it God’s way. If your wall of blessing is down, repent, and God will again put that wall of blessing around you. Chose the ways of God and chose to hang out with people of faith and you will walk in the Blessing of the Lord! Pro. 16:7 When a mans ways please the Lord, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him. Psalms 119:63 I am a companion of all them that fear thee, and of them that keep thy precepts.
