2 Timothy 2:25 In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth

The Gift Of Repentance! By James L. Lantz

The apostles referred to repentance as being a gift from God when defending themselves for preaching Jesus as the Christ who was raised from the dead!  Acts 5:31  Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.  Jesus began His earthy ministry telling people to repent and believe the gospel!  Mark 1:15  And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.  What an awesome privilege it is to be redeemed from the kingdom of darkness and translated into the kingdom of God through repentance and faith in God. Jesus mentioned in His earthly ministry that only those who were drawn by His Father could come to Him for eternal life.  John 6:44  No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.  We are drawn to God by His Spirit when we hear the word of God! The Lord is rich to all who call upon Him, to both the Jew and Gentile!  Rom. 10:13  For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.  The Spirit of God through Paul reveals that repentance is gifted to those who oppose themselves when they are willing to turn from their stubbornness and rebellion.  1 Tim. 2:25  In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;  This is very enlightening, because it is the truth that makes us free! So if we hold to our own ideas that are contrary to what God said, we are refusing God’s gracious gift of repentance. The traditions of men nullify the word of God! This grace of repentance is available to all who desire the Truth! None of us deserved forgiveness, but God, in His great love for us offers this gift of repentance so we can receive forgiveness and have right relationship with Him.

There is no substitute for repentance from dead works and faith in God. Without faith it is impossible to please God for he that comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. True repentance is when we change our thinking and go in the opposite direction. Being sorry that we got caught and experiencing negative consequences is not the same as truly repenting. The truly repentant one will change their mind and their actions to conform to God’s will and God’s way. When Saul of Tarsus saw Jesus on the road to Damascus he repented in his heart and called Jesus Lord. We know he genuinely repented because of his next words and his obedience to the Lord’s instructions.  Acts 9:6  And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do?  Peter genuinely repented from denying the Lord and God used him mightily! Judas was sorry how it turned out but unwilling to get things right going forward. As soon as Jonah repented God delivered him from his place of captivity and positioned him to fulfill his assignment.  Jonah 2:9  But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have vowed.  Salvation is of the LORD. If sin has opened the door to sickness repentance will open the door to healing.  James 5:16  Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed.  Desire for what God offers is an important attribute found in everyone who lays hold of God’s promises. About three thousand people laid hold of eternal life and the baptism of the Holy Spirit when Peter preached at Pentecost. Genuine repentance and faith in God was obvious by the attitude and actions of these new believers. They were glad to hear the message Peter preached and continued hearing the apostles teaching as they stayed in fellowship with them.  Acts 2:42 And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.  God’s messengers can tell when people are not interested in doing what they are commanded to preach. God told Jeremiah, don’t be afraid of their faces, for I am with you to deliver you! Jesus experienced a rough crowd in his home town who wanted to push Him off the cliff! Repentant people are different, they have a godly sorrow but are glad to receive forgiveness of sins and serve God with gladness and joy. Peter preached to the crowd that gathered upon seeing the crippled man healed. Why are looking so earnestly on us as though by our own power or holiness we had made this man to walk? Peter expounded to the people that day that it was their sins that caused Jesus to die on the cross and that through repentance and faith in His name power was made available.  Acts 3:19  Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;

Paul shares his desire for the church to master the fundamentals so he can teach things for those who are skillful in the word. We mature by continually doing the word which causes our senses to be exercised discerning both good and evil. And we will stay immature and unfit for the Masters use if we are continually having to relearn the basic’s of repentance from dead works and of faith towards God. When we are a new believer our bodies and our minds are not yet saved. Our minds, or our way of thinking, must be renewed to think how God thinks and we must bring our bodies under the Lordship of Jesus!  James 1:21 AMPC  So get rid of all uncleanness and the rampant outgrowth of wickedness, and in a humble (gentle, modest) spirit receive and welcome the Word which implanted and rooted [in your hearts] contains the power to save your souls.  The people of Samaria were saved and filled with joy when Philip the evangelist preached the gospel with miracles and signs following. Simon, who formally practiced sorcery, also believed and was baptized. When Simon saw that people were filled with the Holy Spirit when Peter and John laid their hands on them he coveted this gift.  Acts 8:19  Saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Ghost.  Peter rebuked him, your money perish with you, because you thought that the gift of God could be purchased with money. You can have no part in this, for thy heart is not right in the sight of God. Get rid of these evil thoughts and ask God to forgive you. I can see that you are jealous and bound by your evil ways. We clearly see in this account that saved people can have wrong motives and bitterness that needs to be repented of. The gifts of God are not for selfish gain nor self glorification but for the expansion of God’s kingdom! All who humbly avail themselves of this gift of repentance will bring forgiveness! Jesus preached that men must repent, along with Peter, James and John, Paul, and all of the prophets. IT’S A GIFT!

Who will be Caught Up To Be With The Lord At His Appearing?

Everyone who believes that Christ righteousness has become their righteousness in sincerity and in truth! We receive God’s righteousness ( His grace ) through faith! Our first step is to make Jesus the Lord of our life and then walk closely with Him that we are not deceived by false teachers that abound in these last days. Jude 19 These be they who separate themselves, sensual, having not the Spirit. John writes that we who have this hope purify ourselves. We purify ourselves by taking heed to the word of the Lord. This is called the washing of the the water of the Word! 1 John 3:3 And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.

1 Tim. 6:14 . . . keep this commandment without spot, unrebukeable, until the appearing of . . .
2 Tim. 4:8 . . . unto all them also that love his appearing.

Titus 2:12-14 . . . denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

1 Pet. 1:7 . . . your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ

Four Things That Keep Us Close To God! Watch our recent messages on our website!

Glorify God!
Give God Thanks!
Keeping our minds ( imaginations ) on God and His things!
Go To Light!
These four things are opposite of what God said leads people to separate from Him.

Rom. 1:21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were
thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

Jesus return will have similarities to God saving Noah and his family from the great flood! Im sure everyone heard about Noah building that big boat but the majority of people didn’t believe they needed to get involved. Getting involved in building God’s church today is like those who joined in building the ark! They were saved when the wicked were all destroyed!
